Enhancing Eye Whites in Photoshop

Enhancing Eye Whites can dramatically alter the appearance of your photo, making the eyes look brighter, younger and giving them more sparkle :) We'll start with our original photo...

First, select the 'Lasso Marquee' tool from the main tool bar. Give the Lasso a Feather of 1 pixel and draw carefully around her eye whites. To select both eyes at once, hold shift on your keyboard when you're drawing around the second eye white, this will add to the existing selection... Like our example below. Once you have done this... Press Ctrl+C to copy your selection, then Ctrl+V to paste it to another layer above the photo of your girl.

Now were going to use Brightness/Contrast to enhance the eye whites. Go to the Image menu at the top of the screen, select Adjust then choose Brightness/Contrast. This will bring up the Brightness/Contrast menu below. In our example we have set the Brightness to +20 which is enough to correct the eye whites on our model. With your photos you will have to experiment to find the optimum level. This also depends on the size of your photo, as a small photo will usually need more correction.

Below is the finished enhancement compared to the original, with more sparkling, younger looking eyes :) This technique will also work when enhancing teeth too!
