in this tutorial we'll look at designing a sample, professional looking logo! Download the following file logos.zip and extract the files. We'll be using the .psd file later, but first install the 'Buffied' font BEFORE opening Photoshop, so it shows up in Photoshop's font menu.

Start by opening up a new image 600 pixels wide by 220 pixels high... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions

Select the 'Buffied' font and type our Fallen Angel text... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions. NOTE: It's very important to select the best font for the style of site you're designing for. It's a good idea to type your text first, then click inside the 'text name box' in Photoshop and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through all your fonts (the text will automatically update for each font), write down the fonts that you like! When you've gone through all your fonts, set up the logo text in each of your favorite font styles that you wrote down earlier... compare the styles, and pick your font to use on your logo!


To make the text easier to read we're going to enlarge the F and A of Fallen Angel, start by highlighting the F, then entering the text values... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions. NOTE: To give strength to your logo and make it more interesting, conside using different fonts for the capital letters or bold and normal text for different words.

Now, open the fallen_angel_1.psd file in Photoshop and drag the girl onto your text image... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions. NOTE: The Color Adjustment layer will automatically be transfered too, as it's linked to the girl layer.


Rotate the girl slightly so she lies on the text better... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


Highlight the second L in Fallen and adjust the spacing between the L and E to make the text easier to read, allowing for the girls leg... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


Now, select the move tool and drag either the girl or text into position... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


To remove the red 'glow' around our white text caused by the girls color adjustment layer... We need to group the color adjustment layer and the girl layer... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


Next, add an outer glow effect to our text... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


And add a bevel and emboss effect... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


And finally a stroke effect to complete our Fallen Angel text effect... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


We also want a glow around the girl, but below the text, so it doesn't overlap the text. First, duplicate the girl layer... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


Then drag the girl layer below the text... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


Set the foreground and background colors to black... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


And select the Foreground to Background gradient... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


Make sure the Lock Transparency box is ticked and fill the new girl layer with black... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.

And paste them on the 'blacked-out' girl, removing the inner bevel and stroke effect... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.


Select the lasso tool and draw around the small piece of the a in Fallen that looks 'odd' under the girls hands, rasterize the text, then hit delete to remove this part of the a... Click Here to view Screen Shot with Instructions.
